KICKING THROUGH HOLIDAY NOISE

 

The holiday season is one of the most competitive periods in retail, particularly within sneaker and streetwear culture. Consumers are inundated with product drops, influencer endorsements, and promotional messaging across every platform.

 

JD Sports needed a way to stand out during this crowded moment while maintaining credibility with sneaker-obsessed audiences. Traditional holiday marketing or overt sales messaging risked being ignored in a culture that values authenticity and community over promotion. 

 

The brand’s challenge was to embed itself into sneaker culture in a way that felt organic and culturally relevant, while still driving visibility and product consideration during one of the busiest retail periods of the year.

Approach

To meet this challenge, Empower Media developed a multi-platform influencer ecosystem designed to place JD Sports directly inside the conversations and cultural environments where sneaker enthusiasts already engage. 

 

Rather than relying on a traditional influencer endorsement campaign, the strategy positioned JD Sports as an active participant in sneaker culture. Influencers and creators didn’t simply promote the brand — they interacted with it, shopped it, and integrated it into their content and communities. 

 

The campaign activated creators across livestreams, podcasts, social channels, and live cultural events to create authentic moments of product discovery and conversation. 

What we did

  • Collaborated with Complex to sponsor the Sneaker of the Year moment and the ComplexCon kickoff event, placing JD Sports directly inside one of sneaker culture’s most influential gatherings.
  • Executed on-site integrations at ComplexCon including native brand presence, panel shoutouts, and product moments featuring sneakers pulled directly from JD Sports shopping bags.
  • Partnered with Twitch to integrate JD Sports into the Let’s Go Football livestream, where hosts conducted weekly sneaker unboxings and product discussions during live broadcasts.
  • Partnered with iHeartMedia to launch custom podcast integrations supported by social content from DJs and creators documenting visits to local JD Sports stores.
  • Amplified campaign content across social platforms using influencer-led posts, native advertising formats, and platform-specific creative designed to maximize engagement.
